About the Book's Language Approach

This book is deeply rooted in authenticity, crafted with the close involvement of a Native speaker. Our purpose is clear: to grant access to and propagate genuine spoken Hawaiian among Native speakers, in turn benefiting those learning it as a second language.

Our approach maintains the traditional orthography of Hawaiian, foregoing the use of the okina (glottal stop) and kahako (macron). This decision is deliberate – designed to immerse second language learners in the written form as practiced by Native speakers. By reflecting the historical and present use of written Hawaiian, we foster a deeper understanding of the language's essence.
